Simple to make using the simplest ingredients, this versatile sweet and sour sauce may be used for dipping or as a main flavour to your next dish.

2/3 cup pineapple juice
1/3 cup rice vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp water

TIP: While this recipe recommends pineapple juice for its tangy flavour, you can use any desired fruit juice. You can choose mango, apple, or orange, depending on your taste and the dish you are making. Feeling adventurous? Try guava, but watch out! This fruit packs a load of exotic flavour. Add an extra kick to your sauce by adding any chilli sauce, if desired.

  1. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until well blended.
  2. In a sauce pan, mix the pineapple juice, ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, and brown sugar on medium heat. Combine well and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to medium low and whisk in the cornstarch mixture. Cook for 2 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
  4. Serve with your dish immediately, or store in a well sealed container for up to two weeks.
